In this memoir, Dr. Howard McDiarmid tells of his medical experiences, remote from a big city hospital, describes the fun and dangers of life on the Pacific Ocean, and remembers politics in British Columbia under W.A.C Bennett and the Socreds.
Howard McDiarmid arrived on the west coast of Vancouver Island in 1955, fresh out of medical school, as the new doctor for Tofino, Ucluelet, and the surrounding area, including numerous First Nation villages in Clayoquot Sound. He fell in love with the area, eventually became the MLA, and worked to preserve Long Beach, the jewel of the Pacific Rim National Park.
